Stef`s New Marine Tank

Not having a good week so far. Bought a Dracula goby and pistol shrimp on sunday and haven`t seen either since. Sand had been moved behind some live rock at the front yesterday but today it has filled up again.Could be an expensive mistake.

Added to this the cannister filter I added 2 months ago leaked and flooded my lounge. Lucky I was in at the time. Took it back to the LFS I bought it from who seemed to think it was my fault and reluctantly replaced the top part.Took it back home and it still seems to be leaking but I cant see why or where from! Added to this it seems to be full of air despite re priming it several times. As the unit cost £160 this could be a very expensive week.

Don't worry, they are just settling into their new home, it is very normal. they will do this occassionaly and scare the life out of you thinking that you have lost them and then all of a sudden they appear again!

Dracula's love brine shrimp (not the best for them), so give it a couple of days then put loads of brine shrimp in the tank - would be surprised if he can resist

What do people do about supplements when they go on holiday?

I have been monitoring my levels carefully and I am adding supplements for calcium, magnessium and strontium daily to keep levels even.

A neighbour is going to feed the fish daily but knows nothing about marine fish.

I was thinking of making up the food and supplements and putting them in containers for him to add daily.

Do people think this would be a good idea? What do you do when you go away?

Any advice would be very welcome.

Seffie you are a genius.

Put some brine shrimp in and out he popped. At least I know now where he is. Would you target feed him and if so what is the best thing for him. Feeding the rest marine and algae pellets rolled into a ball and pushed onto the glass.

Thanks again.

Came back from holiday to a bit of a disaster.

Despite giving very clear instructions on what level to keep the tank at to a friend it was 3-4 inches below the level needed to keep everything running smoothly. As a result I lost both my Potters and Flameback Angels and several hard corals.

Once I have got the tank up and running I will post again.

Feeling a bit gutted at the moment.

Heres a photo of how the tank is looking.

I will try to put some individual photos of some of the corals later in the week.

Currently have a foxface, yellow tail dwarf angel, fairy wrasse, peacock wrasse, royal gramma, blue cheek goby and 3 caribbean bass.

Did have another fairy wrasse and a couple of dwarf angels but these died when I was on holiday. Replaced these with the yellow tail.

Here`s some of the latest corals and how the tank is at the moment.
