I read a lot about how much fun/intresting shrimp tanks can be, so... I've finally decided to go out and... DO IT! I bought a new 10 Gal tank, with everything needed, heater, filter.. etc...

What ive done to kick start the water is just use water from my cycled 75 Gal tank and cyphon it into my 10gal, which is right next to my 75gal. I was testing my water earlier today and noticed everything was normal, except the Nitrate, which was just a little bit over normal, so went out and bought something to cure that, so that helped keep the Nitrate level down. So the tank is goin, oxygen goin, rocks in, black sand in. I have some plants waiting to be placed in the tank, but havent done it yet, when finished I will post some screenies.

I have ordered some Cherry Shrimp to start my first tank, and am hoping they do well :) Got some different kinds of moss coming in, and im sure the shrimp will enjoy that being in the tank. I will keep the post up to date. And thus, my shrimp experience begins! :hyper:

Just using water from a cycled tank wont help, you'll need to take some of the sponge out the cycled filter and put it in your new filter. :good:

Sounds good, i look forward to seeing you pics of your shrimps :good:

Good Choice on the black substrate, red shrimp really stand out on it.

Yeah i've just got some cherry shrimps-awesome-i hope they breed because i want to spread them to all my tanks - and then take on the amanos at kickboxing!

Hey! My tank is ALMOST ready, I think... lol, im not professional when it comes to shrimp, so it may look a little.. boring. but im not finished yet, I still have some moss and a few more plants on the way off of e-bay. I should be expecting the shrimp tomorrow, hopefully. A lfs sells moss balls, but they get a new bunch of them tomorrow, should i grab some? ANYWHO, heres some pics of the tank, tell me what u guys think.

AND one last question, what in the world is this? Looks like a green worm thing, covered in a leaf. Is that a bad thing? It came with some moss I bought at a LFS:

The pics should hopefully load for everyone now. :)

Imageshack doesn't want to load all your pics for some reason, I've been waiting 10 mins and can only see the first one and last 2. I host my pics at Photobucket.com and they seem to work nice and quick.

Of the pics i can see they look great! The CRS is cool, hopefully you have both males and females as the babies are awesome.

They are nice looking Cherrys too... Do you know what the plant they are standing on is called... Its the same thing i have in my shrimp tank but I'm not certain of its name!

As for your weird green thing I have no idea, if nobody else can ID it i would take it out. Its better to be safe than sorry.

I can see them now... They are looking great :good:

Its the plant in the 4th and 6th pics I was trying to ID, any ideas?

Nice pics, that moss ball looks HUGE next to the shrimp!

I'm going to be starting a shrimp tank at some point soon too...

Eldoea Densa. :good:

but i'm probably wrong as always.
It's actually now classified as Egeria densa lol :p Same thing and it's usually just called elodea, but they apparently changed Egeria into it's own genus based on the number of leaves that come out of each whorl :).
