When I first thought about getting a tank I thought yep I’ll get a small tank add a few fish and away we go. Well after being on this site and learning so much I realise that I wish I had thought about it properly and gotten a bigger tank. There are so many fish that I’d like but can’t have because of my tank size

I think when it’s payday I’ll have a look for something bigger on ebay

Its just the way. But remember although it can be easier etc to keep and maintain a big tank, you will be dealing with a heavier stock load of fish and if anything went wrong for a beginner it can be quite devastating. A 10Gal is decent size starter, but you would be best with 29Gal, great size for a beginner :good:

If you are in the US, then you might check on craigslist. You can get great second hand tanks from people just aching to get rid of them and you can get them for a steal! I bought my 40gallon with the stand, filter, and ornaments for only 75 bucks, and after researching the tank, the tank alone would have been about $250 alone. I never thought to check ebay though, which I might do that next time I upgrade my tank.

I always get my fishy stuff second hand from Ebay.

You can get set up with a largish tank for less than a ton (£100 to our american friends).

Thanks guys. I think I'll give it few months to see how I get on. Then probably wait til after Christmas as I'm sure ebay will have loads of unwanted tanks in the New Year. I'm sure to get a bargain! :D

IMO I'd get the biggest tank I can afford. I went from 2 gallons to 10, then 20, 35, 50 and now have a 120gallon. Wish I'd gone for the 120 to begin with. Depends on the fish you wanna get too, If you just want 1 betta u dont need a 75gallon tank  Just bigger tank gives u more options and give fish more room to swim n turn, they dont look cramped. Now I wont go for anything smaller than 75gallon, just cuz I like medium to big size fish. Just my 2 cents  Good luck.

no matter how much you have you always want more.

doesn't just apply to fish tanks :)

Good Idea ;)

Apperently (16 gal is the smallest ive got) bigger tanks area easier for beginners. More water makes it easier to maintain stable conditions. Changes that take a few days in a big tank, can happen in hours in small tanks.

Like everything, there are always pro's an con's!
