As the topic says, it's 240 litres and so far I have the following

Mix shoals of tetras
Clown loaches
5 branded barb

I have just sold my 4 angel fish and am really looking for something that can be my new centre piece, I do not want to add angel fish again or use discus, and I don't want it anything to big.

Any ideas?

Well first off you should rehome or upgrade your clown loach, they prefer groups of 5+ and 150 gallon+ tanks or 567 liters. What tetras do you have in the tank and how many? You could get a pair of peacock gudgeon if you like those, or a school of cory cats or a school of kuhli loahces.

One thing I have done bud is had clown loaches for a long time, I breed them, these are a couple months old and moved from a 450 ltr tank to this one for time being.

Gudgeon's are really nice, but finding somehwere with them here in the UK is difficult, have tried looking for sometime,

At the moment I have not moved any tetras from my tetra tank to this one at the moment.

You breed clown loach!!! AWESOME!!! got any pics of them at all? what do you do to get them spawning? do you collect the eggs or remove the adults once they have spawned?

Send me a PM, want to keep this thread to finding a centre piece fish :D

Actually can u start a thread id be really interested in that to. :p
Do you want the center piece fish to be bottom/mid/top? Oddball or like labryrith? If your good with delicate fish you could get a elephant nose fish, or maybe some sort of cool pleco for that size tank, not sure what types are good for that size tank. You could get a red tailed shark but idk if he would get along with the clown loach.

I shall do.

Oddball, Labryith not quite right for it, used to breed silver sharks and they are dumb, introduced a few red tails back then and just became boring.

The centre piece needs to be nice and calm.

If you breed the Clown Loaches, why have you only got four youngsters, when it is common knowledge that they are very hierarchal and do far better in 10+ groups?

Multiple red tails and balas in together. I've never heard that called boring before!!!

I'm sorry if you know more than me, what I do has worked for me for a long time so I'm not about to change that. I have 455 litre tank that cascades into a 280. Just because you must be sherlock and jumped to conclusions by reading my old signature which reads "4 Clown Loaches" these are infact something called Panaqolus Maccus or known as L104. So yes my signature read wrong but still, let's not assume.

If Clown Loaches are Panaqolus maccus, I dare not assume what Branded Barbs are. ;)

Having a sig that implies what fish you have already needs to be kept up to date, otherwise it will make forum users jump to conclusions, especially when your opening post states...

Haha I really don't have time in life for petiteness.

I never said that clown loaches were L104's

My signature is old, I've only recently returned and not changed it.

And my post states that, but it did not state 4. WHO CARES!

I think we have to clarify what species you are calling a clown loach.
Clown_Loach-e1371731443329.jpg

This is what I consider a clown loach.
If this is the fish you are discussing breeding you can imagine why people are so excited to hear about it. This is a fish with only a couple of recorded successes of captive breeding. One was poorly documented and the other required a hormonal treatment that is the fish equivalent of artificial insemination (http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/content.php?sid=1584). So for someone to be successful, you can understand, is a very exciting topic to our members.

This also goes to your original post as I personally consider clown loaches to be one of the best "center piece" fish there is. A group is lively, colorful, fascinating to watch interact with each other, and large enough to really catch anyone's attention upon seeing the tank. They are one of my favorite FW fish. Of course they do require a large tank and might not be right for you. I didn't read what size you would be keeping them in. I recommend a tank six feet long personally.

Other than that I consider angels as great show fish, a school of larger tetra like the emperor or perhaps rainbow fish would be a good choice.
