I have just been deliverd a second hand fluval 4ft tank and cabinet in mint condition for just £120 it came with the fluval 305 external filter, fluval heater, lights, vacumn, bogwood, gravel, 2ft heli' wreck it even has unopend nutrafin food, bacteria start and water conitioner. I want to set it up for a planted tropical but the previous owner said he kept captive bread mirror carp in up until 6 weeks ago so i want to give it all a good scrub down and put new filter madia in. I wanted to know whats the best way to clean the tank and decor for use again?

Plain hot water works for most things. If there's a lot of limescale or crusty deposits, lemon juice, vinegar and salt all work well and are easily washed away, so you don't have to worry about any toxic residues :)

Don't forget you'll need to cycle the filter :good:

everything looks clean allready it looks like i just bought it from the shopo but ill prob give it a rinse with a bit of vinegar anyway thanks for the tip ill post again asking how to start up i just want to get my decor sorted so im happy with it before i put any fish in this may take a few week to save up for as im not exactly flush one thing i wanted was the 3D immatation rock backgrounds that u stick to the inside of the glass but they are really expensive from my local store can they be made myself or is there a cheaper alternative?

I wont be using the heli opting for a more natural set up after looking at the competition winners pics theres some stunning scenery in those tanks
