Starting Out, All Advice Welcome!

About the best thing you can do with the LR is to make sure there is a water flow over it while your away this will help it stay cured and if not cured it will help the curing process and when you return should be ready to use, there is no need to feed the LR as it will take care of itself all you will be doing is making the water quality worse as there will be no filter or skimmer going which will reduce the quality of the LR.

When I set my tank up I left the LR in the tank with 4 hermits for best part of 2 months with very little lighting, when I got Back it was straight down to business, the only thing you may want to be careful of when you get back is phosphate as it will hit with a vengence as most people will tell you when they set up thier marine set up, plus its always a good idea to put something in to keep it to a minimum to avoid algae from the word go as its almostg unavoidable.

Other than that sounds like you have a good plan :good:

Righto, keep the flow on them and they'll be fine. It wouldnt hurt to add a little flake or something every few days. Also I'd keep the lights off on the rocks for that period, some people may disagree with that though as lighting would assist in the growth of algaes that could potentially absorb excess nutrients in the water. Whatever, either way you're pretty safe leaving LR to sit.

At the moment there aren't any lights on the LR, all its getting is sunlight through a window morning and evening which all my tanks get.

I'm having great fun fiddling with the timers on the tank, got it so it has a dawn, midday and dusk lighting, hmmm now I wanna get a blue moonlight LOL.

I don't mind algae, actually I quite like it, Mum thinks I'm demented cos I'll clean the glass but won't take the algae off the decorations. Will algae harm a marine tank?

What decorations? The liverock? I wouldnt scrub the liverock unless nuisance algae takes over, in which case a tooth brush and a siphon do the trick.
