Hey guys,
I am hoping to start a Nano reef that i could keep to clownfish or other small marine fish. However , if i am to do this i will need your help. Please recommend suitable sizes and price ranges. I don't really want to spend a fortune as i am to young to have a job (except paperround)My budget for tank and setup costs not including fish is £100. I amwilling to buy second hand so if anyone has any. Pm me. ANyhow i know most of you are masters on this kind of thing so pppppppllllllllease help me. I would love to start a nano reef. :)
Thanks and i look forward to hearing from you.

ya they are defintley not going to be cheap you have to buy live rock, and filters heaters and maybe a hood and lighting thats usually recommended tho i knoe others who dont use them. im not sure how to do the conversion to us dollars but here a 29 gallon is 65$ new but its not a cheap hobby, very rewarding tho, no matter how anxious you get to set it up do research on what to buy and where it pays off every dollar counts good luck

ok just for you... here is a break down of the setup that i have just put together...

Tank £65 (Aquaone AR380 (pico at 7.5 UK gallons))
Heater £15 (50W)
Lighting starter £42 (twin 36W)
2x 24W tubes - £24
RedSea Argonite Sand - £20
Instant Ocean Salt £16 (for 120L)
Mag cleaner - £4

£186...
This is just the tank setup...

If you wanted to keep a few fish then you will need a bigger tank.

Then if you were buying RO I would have needed 50L - £7

You then need Live rock - this will be anything from £8-£16 a KG... you should be looking at about 1kg per 1.5UK gal so in mine I'll be getting 5kg for £50 from my friendly local store :)

I reckon a FOWLR for a pair of clowns could go about as low as £200.
It'd take a while as you'd have to wait individually for every item on bargain :/
Would you be able keep up with the upkeep also?

Can you stretch over 100? I can't see it being down for anything under 200 TBH......

Ok well this is my costing for a tank big enough for a pair of clowns...

Aqua-One A-65 - 15Gallon Tank with 22W CFL Lighting & Filteration (600LPH Powerheard) - £85
Heater - £15
Powerhead - £15
2 x TMC Coral Sand - £8
TMC 4KG Tropic Marin Salt - £11
Hydrometer - £12

Live Rock - 5KG - £50

Thats £196.

So once you add fish and extras you are talking £250.

You could go 2nd hand off ebay but be very careful as some tanks that are sold with stock are never as good bargain as they seem and others may be being sold due to disease, infestations of algae or parasites etc.

There have been some posts around that ..in general...the lowest that you can set up a nano reef for is about $400 (?200 pounds?). It is not a cheap hobby. You need continual sea salt, pure water and media changes. If you're parents are going to help you out, ask them if they are willing to help you out with the cost of upkeep. :hi: SH
