Starting Again

Stay away from most cichlids if you have plants. They always seem to be rearranging their decor, including plants, and it gets frustrating trying to plant them again every day. The cichlids have more time for the tank than you do. (Note: Angels are cichlids but they don't rearrange things like so many cichlids do.)

Thank you, this is where I would like to get advice from people on here as my last tank had live plants in and I got a firemouth cichlid and a severum....what a mess my plants were

What about Rams? Bolivian/German?

IME German blue rams will leave your plants alone but they do need a higher temp than most common community fish, and slightly acidic softer water, so you will have to watch the compatibility with other fish you may want to have in there. I found that mine spawn quite frequently and they will protect there eggs, but this does not seem to result in any stress or injury to my other community fish. Other more experienced people may add to this.
