Starting A Marine Aquarium

Buy cheap, have a nuked tank with thousands of $$ in livestock dead...

uh? nuked tank? lol why will it nuke my tank :(

Well, two reasons =

heater over-heats and fries everything in your tank - happened to me in my fw tank of female bettas :S

The other is it stops working and you don't notice that the water is getting colder and colder.....................

okay i understand. that is why you keep the thermometre in the water and check it daily or atleast when time to clean once or every other week.

Worse still Seffie, cheap heater cracks spilling electricity and molten copper in your tank, killing most inverts and corals quickly, and fish shortly after that. Not even time to overheat or loose temp...

My reccomendation: get mid-range heaters and replace them every 2-3 years. You can sell the used ones if you like. Compared to the value of livestock in the tank, an extra ~$25 every 3 years should be valuable insurance...

Its probably better to buy good quality equipment which cost a few £'s more than having to start your whole tank again in the future.
