My Aqua One Aquis 1200 filter came with the option of either using a spray bar (of 2 different lengths), or of using a 'duckbill' attachment to supply the water back into the tank. I used the duckbill for now as it was most similar to what I had been using on my internal filter.
I'm just wondering if there is a preference here, and what the benefits are of one over the other?

I had a CF1000 on a royale that came with both, the spraybar annoyed the heck outta me, very noisy and although great for aeration I couldnt stand it for more than a week and changed to the duckbill, much better, but its down to personal preference.

it really depends, a spraybar reduces the flow out of the tank (same amount of litres per hour processed, just less disturbance in the tank) so if you have any fish which prefer still or slow moving water then the spraybar is the way to go, if your fish need a bit of current then the 'duckbill' is the best one.

if it's your only filter in a standard tank i'd go with the duckbill, but we do funny arrangements with dual filters like one of them on the duckbill at one end, then the other one at the other end of the tank on a spraybar pointing down so that there's flow going across the bottom and the top of the tank in a kind of circular way.

also what plants you have will have some effect on your choice, any fine stemmed plants infront of the filter would prefer the reduced flow from the spraybar.

Iv got a spray bar at the moment which is just under the surface which makes it quiet.. i couldnt stand it whne it was above the water.. i like it as its a relativly small tank and iv got a prity powerfull filter for it so the spray bar makes it vey calm..
