Spotted Talking Catfish

So basically he hides upside down under an ornament and never comes out. Even when I pick it up he doesn't budge though I haven't gone as far as to lift it completely out of the water. Is this normal? Ive never seen hu exploring and munching so am worried he may starve!

he will do it at night most catfish ( correct me if im wrong ) are nocternal and eat late at night like mine right now

My Lima Shovelnose catfish only eats at night when the lights are off. Iv never seen him eat but I put food in after the lights go off at night and when I look in the morning he has a little bump on his belly

He is a new fish so I havnt totally got to grips with him yet. I understand that he needs algae wafers and your not meant to leave them in for too long or you get algae problem, if so how do I feed him before bed? Probably a silly question lol!

I hope he comes out occasionally!

He should be fine but do leave his food all night for him - just leave a little at first then increase it to make sure there is none left in the morning. Algae wafers shouldn't dissolve and cause a pollution problem. They are probably the least likely food to cause a problem. They eat all sorts of catfish pellets and probably other things too - you just don't see them!

What I do us pop in a couple of pellets or a prawn broken up when the lights go off around 11 at night and by the morning it's gone I feed every other day for now

Honestly... i wouldnt get too upset. I rated my one as the most boring fish on earth. He hid... and that was it... he ate but i never saw him do it... so had to have been at night... he hid partially in view (hid his face lol) but even then... once a week i had to pick him up and turn him about to check he was alive because i was never entirely sure.

I've had pet rocks that were more active and more interesting!

try feeding with tetra prima. that fetches mine out and the banjo's which are just as bad if not worse for hiding.

I had a spotted and striped TC, never saw either of them. When i did come to rehome them i had to totally destroy the ornament he hid in to get him out. Great fish though, just a shame they're nocturnal. Just saw some in the LFS for £4.95 each... was so tempted to get 3 but resisted in the end for this very reason.

my talking catfish were awesome... they would even come and pinch the cichlid pellets from the surface amongst large cichlids! they were always out at feeding time but did hide quite a bit during the day i think thats their nature.

bare with the cat as they do take time to settle in and become brave

ahh i fed some brine shrimp this evening and he came out and got some, amazing!!
