Spot On Neons Mouth And Ragged Fins. Am I Treating The Wrong Thing?

Sure it dosn't look like a dusting of white on the fish.
Melafix ok on cuts and wounds but not on columnaris, pimafix better for columnaris.
I have a feeling there alot going off with the fish.

This is what velvet looks like.

Is it possible to post some pics.

Just been thinking has the whitespot got worse since you stopped the med as it sounds like it to me.

The lfs should of never of told you to stop the meds while they still had the spots.

How long have you had the med, with losing the wrapper is it possible it was out of date.

Well the pics that we managed to get of the angelfish are not very clear, how do you guys get the pics so good? How do I add a pic? Been trying but can't seem to get it to work!

We only stopped treating whitespot on Sunday, started melafix last night. The spots got worse whilst still treating for it, they said it obv wasn't working, so no point carrying on for now. We only bought the med the other week when we started treating it! The wrapper got ripped off as the shop put some tape on the bottle to proove we'd paid for it, and when we took it off, it ripped the wrapper off as well!

I've read the ntd, it doesn't sound like that, so I think that's good, but I will keep an eye on them.

I was actually looking at velvet when you said, but I don't think it's that. He doesn't seem to have a dusting over him. But the spots are all in a line along his top fin, which is why we now are doubting the whitespot! You can see the where the spots all in a line in the pic, its just not too clear!

Ok the files are really large, as for some reason my boyfriends digi cam takeshuge file sized pics! I've tried to cut it down, hopefully this will work, I've just tried the one pic, as like I said I dont know if they will be any use!

You can see on the one of his whole body that there are no spots there! Only along the top fin in a line.

The pics are not that clear but it looks like columnaris to me that goes along the back then comes down the sides of the fish to form a saddle look, thats why is called saddle back columnaris.

Yeah we tried to get some good pics, but unfortunatly the fish got very stressed and went really pale with fright, so we stopped trying!

The spots started off with just 2 or 3 tiny spots on his fin, then more came all in a line, and now they are joined which you can sort of see from the pic. They started off looking very much like salt grains, which is why we treated for whitespot, but now they are slightly bigger spots, and more fluffy looking, so I do think maybe its a fungus. Columnaris would make sense.

Will melafix not do anything for this? Should I treat for the 7 days anyway like I was advised? Then try a med for columnaris if there is no improvement? The melafix bottle said it will treat fungus. so I thought it might help, also I don't think you can see on that pic, but he does have a face wound, so melafix would help that wouldn't it.

I really don't know what to do about him! Will the columnaris get worse? And will it kill him?

Should I use both of those treatments you said, or just one? If so which one would be best?

Do you think I should start with treatment for columnaris straight away and abandon the melafix for now? If so will I need to do a water change before adding the new med to get rid of the melafix?

I read somewhere that columnaris likes warm temperatures, should I lower the tank temp? What temp should I put it on? It's been raised to 30 degrees for trying to get rid of the whitespot, so could this of speeded up the columnaris growth?

Tetracycline you have to raise the temp with, but turn it down by two degrees as bacterial mulitplys faster in warmer temp.
If you don't have the pimafix use the bacterial med with the melafix for now.
Got to get it under control fast as columnaris can soon kill fish.
Good luck.

Ok will turn down temp.

I dont have any bacterial meds, all I have is melafix and the white spot treatment. I can go and try to get the pimafix though. Do I need to use pimafix on its own, or can I use melafix with it?

I will carry on with melafix until I get pimafix. Is there anything else thats good incase they don't have pimafix at the shop?

Ok, will go to the pet shop tomorrow and hopefully they will sell it, as our lfs is about 30min drive away and I don't have time to go in the week!

The fish tank is at my boyfriends house, and I won't be there again until Friday. Will it be ok to wait until Friday to start the new meds? It's only one extra day, will it make a big difference? He can turn down the temp and carry on with melafix until then.

Fingers crossed but same as us have to get on top of things fast, as bacteria infections are bad and soon get worse, good luck.
