Hi again

One of my swordtails has got a big spot just above her pectoral fin. Its a white spot that looks like a boil, its under her scales causing a few of them to look like they are coming away from her body.
She seems fine in herself, swimming around the tank normally with the other fish.

A few days ago I posted on here because one of my fish (a molly) developed a popeye, but all water stats were fine, and had been for months. That has since gone down.

Any ideas of what this white spot is, and what I can do to treat it? Im in the UK by the way

You need to issolate the fish incase the spot bursts.
Any redness to the spot.
If you can issolate you could try a bacterial med, if the spots looks like its filled with fluid.
A pic would be good.

If lumps just appear out of nowhere there usually bacerial.

No, there isn't any real redness to the spot. It looks just like a white lump under the scales.

I dont have a hospital tank, something I really need to sort out. I need to be really carefully about what meds I can use as I have a BN plec

Plecs can tolerate bacterial meds more than parasite meds.
You must increase aeration with meds as they reduce 02 in the water.
Did you read that link I left you.

Yeah I did, thank you very much.

It sounds like its Columnaris.

What is the best med to use for this?

Columnris usually has a circling of red on the outside of the spot, or sometimes a red centre.
What your location need it for a med.

Hmmm I really cannot see any redness, but being an orange swordtails could this be difficult to spot anyway?

I'm in England so I know some meds are not available over here

Lumps can be hard to treat in the uk as the meds are not that strong.
Anti internal bacteria med by interpet.
Keep fingers crossed. good luck.

Many thanks Wilder. We have a pet shop thats open til 8 I believe, so shall pop over there after I have eaten my dinner.

Your a true star to this forum, many thanks for all your help and your kind words :)

Thanks Wilder
Med has been purchased, and added to the water. Got to do seconds treatment on Tuesday.

Thanks again for you help

Ok hope it does the job.
Good luck.

2 days later and the fish is still alive, and acting perfectly normally and eating fine.
Her spot has got bigger, and looks like bits are flaking on it.
I dont have another tank I can isolate her in, and am worried about her infecting the other fish. I added the meds 2 days ago, and the next dose is due Tuesday.
Any ideas?

That why is so important for members to buy issolation tanks, not having ago.
Leave it two more days and get back to the board.

Well the second dose went in Tuesday and the fish has made what looks like a full recovery. The spot has totally disappeared, and she is swimming round perfectly happy.

My question now is when do I replace the carbon filter back into my filter? Also do I need to purchase a new one, or put the old one back in there.
I put it in one of the bags you get when you buy fish, but if I'm to put this one back into the tank is there anything I should do before had? Like give it a rinse in a bucket of tank water before putting it back into the filter?

Many thanks for all your help :)
