Sponge Instead Of Carbon

in the tetratec ex1200 there`s a space in the top tray for carbon,as i dont use carbon can i just put some extra sponge in there instead

Excellent idea! :good: Ceramic rocks or tubes (noodles) even better

ok,but would i leave the rest of the media in the arranged order and use extra ceramics or tubes in the top container with the polishing pad or do i need to change them round?

You should look at the content of your entire filter Elaine.
You want to end up with good particulate removal followed by lots of biological media and a final layer of polishing filter media to remove the smallest of particulate. If you keep that objective in mind you will do fine with your media set up.

thanks om47,thats the question i was trying to ask, what would you reccommend putting in place of the carbon, set up of filter is as follows,
bottom tray ceramic ring filters and biological filter foam
next tray bb bio filter balls
next tray biologicalfilter foam x2
top tray biological filter foam
carbon filter media
filter floss pad,

tetratec ex 1200

Instead of switching back and forth like that, why not start with the sponges from coarse to fine as you go up in the filter. Once all the sponges are in place put in your various ceramic media. Finally put a polishing pad on the top of the top basket right before your impeller.

thanks,i`v never thought about changing layout of media, always just done what it says in manual.

so what are you going to change the carbon too? and the sponges dont change in density there all the same ive changed the carbon too an extra polishing pad
