Hi guys. Went out of fishkeeping for a good while and have returned to the hobby.
Can anyone tell me if sponge filters work as well the electric filters (fluval) etc.
Just setting up a QT tank and would like people's thoughts.

Cheers

Steve

They do a great job with chemical filtration (turning ammonia into nitrate) but do not handle mechanical filtration (removing gunk from the water/tank), so it will be up to you to do substrate cleans with water changes.
I use homemade sponge filters in all my betta tanks and they are terrific! Id say perfect for a Qtank. Just get the syphon ready to remove poo, etc.
cheers

Thanks loraxchick, appreciated.

May I ask one more thing if you don't mind?

As the QT tank will double as a hospital tank, what can be added to remove the meds if used. I know carbon will do the job but with a sponge filter there is nowhere to put the carbon :S

Thanks again

Steve

QT tanks are often so small a few water changes should do the job me thinks!

Thanks tizer. Never had one before but thought it best when coming back into the hobby.
