Sponge Filters

Well I didn't see anything in the FAQ, so I figured I'd ask. I just got my betta a new 2.5 gallon tank, and I bought him a sponge filter for it as well. This is the one I bought. Except I got mine for $13 at a LPS. I'm still pretty new to keeping bettas.

So I just wanted to know, are these sponge filters any good...?

you can use that type of filter on the tank but it needs an air pump to run. Try to have the outlet aimed towards the side of the tank to minimise the surface movement.
When you clean the sponge wash iy out in a bucket of tank water. The air pump and filter should be run all the time otherwise the good filter bacteria won't grow.

those are almost identical to the ones modaz runs in his betta tanks in the shop, and in most of the other tanks too, some of the messier fish have eheim filters too, but those sponge ones are great

i didn't really like the sponge filter i had, but i just bought a new one tday, you don't have to connect a airline up to this one.

my water in my tank is crystal clear, my old filter didn't make the water look as clean as this one has

this is just my opinion though.

That's not a sponge filter btw. I wasn't sure if you were saying it was or not. I have the Stingray 10 too with my dwarf pencil fish. The flow may be a little strong for a betta but you can turn the top bit and point it at the glass.

Ahhh, okay thanks, guys. I got him a new heater today too so he should be quite happy. Especially after the bloodworms I got him, he sucks those things up like a vacuum and will try to eat more when his mouth is already full.
