Sponge filter

I hear alot of people talking about the sponge filter. I have a 55 gallon aquarium with a penguin 350, a topfin 75, and a WaveMaker, is it necessary that I put in a sponge filter, water is clear also.
 
No, it’s not necessary, especially since you have the other 2 filters.
 
I always keep a sponge filter in the tank so that I have a a filter with beneficial bacteria when I have to setup a quarantine tank or a hospital tank. It is also very useful when the power goes off for longer periods of time. I can then attach a battery-powered air pump to it and keep biological filtration going in the tank.
