My splendid wrasse has just decdied to make an appearance after placing him i n my wifes nano system. The resident clarkii wasnt too impressed but im sure it will get over the intrusion.

Once my new system is setup the wrasse will go into this.

Aren't Macropharyngodon obligate microfauna eaters? I have heard of some being "trained" to eat frozen foods. Sorry to hijack your post, Navarre, but how is this to be done?

Yeah they're survival rate is pretty low, but GORGEOUS fish. One of my LFS' that really stinks (from a knowledge/care standpoint) just got one in on a shipment, although they got the red variety. Didn't have the time today but hopefully before the week is out I'll be able to get back there and ask to see if it will eat frozen. If so, I'm totally getting it, although not holding out hopes cause I too have read they are picky eaters :(

Ski, mine started out as red and changed colour as it grew so your might do the same.. i actually think its turned male as the males tend to be greener and the females are red.

They are very picky eaters so i urge anyone who wants one to be sure they are feeding before they leave your lfs.
I was extremly lucky with this little guy, it ate from the moment it got in the tank and ha sbeen a rela hardy specimen. I have kept it for that very reason.. I could easily buy a new one for the new systembut i know this one well and a new one might not be so easily acclimatised. I am considering hwoever getting another one to make a pair as they wil live communally if introduced at the same time. Im hoping that if i have one feeding well then the other wil follow suit.

As for getting one to feed once in the tank. All i can say is to try a varied diet, mysis, brineshrimp, even pod cultures if you can get them. If you have enough liverock then they will graze and hunt all day long onthis and im sure that they gain alot of sustenance from this. If you have one and have plenty of liverock with no other predators of similar food then you might be lucky and get away with it. onve its feeding in the systemon the pods inthe liverock you may strike lucky and get it weened onto dried foods.

wow thats alls i can say about that fish. IMO people tend to overlook wrasses but they have such wonderful colourings and is a shame...... wow :p
