bought one of these last week from AE http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/index.php?...roducts_id=1271

It say's in the advert it's high quality plastic, it arrived and I thought, wow that really is high quality plastic, it looks and feels just like glass. That evening started trying to hook it up to my Co2 kit and I was having a battle with it, as I thought the diffuser was plastic I wasn't being massivley careful with it. it bumped against the side of the tank and the bottom of it completely shattered. bloody thing is most definatley made of glass :X

not very impressed actually as I e-mailed Richard from AE a couple of days ago saying he should maybe change the listing on the site about it as it's incorrect info and he's not replied to me or changed it. Unlike him but never mind.

so anyhow now the glass stick that goes down the middle has broken off, the inlet type bit at the bottom completely shattered but the main spiral is still ok. i thought i could fix it by just running the Co2 tubing down the middle of the spiral and connecting it to the spiral. forgot about the inlet bit and it's not really working properly cos it can't draw in water from anywhere.

so if i made a hole in the lowest point of the Co2 tube would that draw in water, or just let out the Co2? or could I maybe put in a t-piece or something at the bottom? anyway i can fix this as I really can't afford a new one right now :/

I'd try e-mailing or phoning again, I'd hope some kind of cheap/free replacement could be organised?!

reckon i'd be entitled to a replacement or anything like that?

i wouldn't wanna try and swindle anyone i broke the thing myself and i've been honest about that. however it was incorrectly advertised and as had it been advertised correctly i would have been more careful and hopefully not broken it!

Sorry to hear about your diffuser woes.

I was under the impression that the Spio diffusers are made from a very hard but brittle plastic - hence your unfortunate experience. They apparently flex by a small degree, something that glass would not do.

hmmm strange, i'll have another look at it tonight, Ian's convinced it's glass though. Is there a sure fire way of telling?

Strange as it may sound, I reckon tapping it gently on your teeth may help you work out if it is glass or plastic. Even hard plastic will likely have a dull/low sound but glass should be very high pitched....yeah I know, I'm wierd!

had another look at it last night, intentionally broke some of the long tube and i think he was right, it is plastic after all. bah, i blame Ian getting my hopes up!

The Spio diffuser I bought from Aquatic Magic is absolutely made out of glass, no doubts!

My Spio III is also made out of glass. I broke my first one after a few weeks while cleaning it. It's a good idea to have a back up.
