in my invert book it said you can keep one in a 100L tank. is this true?

It depends on the size of the starfish, size of your tank and how long your tank has been established. I've got about 5 baby ones hiding in the live rock. They came with the rock, which was from an established tank and are roughly the size of a 10p coin. Most starfish die after a few weeks or months in new tanks, as there is insufficient food for them to eat and target feeding can be problematic, as other CUC like hermits get to food before the starfish do. I personally wouldn't keep another starfish in anything smaller than a 4-5ft tank that had been established for over a year.

I made the mistake of adding a starfish to my tank when it was just a couple of months old, it lasted about 4 weeks, so I certainly agree with that.

Meh, my starfish is doing fine. I can't quite remember whether it's a brittle star or a Serpent star, but just give it half a cube of mysis every few days and it's fine. It's also quite large, when it's all stretched out its probably 12 inches from one arm tip to another.

I know fromia's and linkia's are difficult though.
