I also posted this in the discussion forum, but figured it could go here, too.

My new blood parrots arrived today from Trimar Aquaria - great service from them, as always.

Anyway, a few (very poor quality) pictures... sorry about the shots, other half bust the camera so i had to use my phone!!

That's all folks - i made a video of releasing them but the quality was just totally awful.

Will post more pics asap.

i likie those fish :)

my LFS has those in often, and sometimes (against there will) they get some that have been colour fed - this apparently makes them change colour temporarily.
they have had pale blue, dark blue, pink and green varieties!

Also, does no one here turn the lights off in their tanks when introducing new fish?

In a way i love parrots, they look brilliant i think, but then in the back of my mind theres always the fact that they are inbred, hope you like yours :)

If the parrots are pink and green etc they arent coloured by foods... they are died... injected.... horribly painfull and hsouldnt be created let alone sold.

Im sure they are lovely fish in themselves but personally I refuse to sell them and I wont order them in on the basis that they are an unessecary hybrid of some lovely species that are seriously prone to health problems and deformities.

I will only take them on as rescues and I see them all the time with twisted mouths and defomed spines and fins. I hate having to euthanise fish but if it cant eat or swim properly.... i just dont see why i should have to be the one to end a fishes life because someone is being really irresponsible and breeding/importing these fish.

Very nice.
Carnt wait to see some photos.
I saw some green, blue, pink parrots before.
I thought they were natural.
But ovbiously not.
And that was from A5 Aquatics.
Which is highly recommended.
Urghh!

I spoke to my LFS, who i trust completely, he mentioned the injected variety, but assured me these were colour fed, the colour goes away within 2-3 weeks this way.

I dont agree with injected at all, neither does my LFS.

Im afraid to say thats a lie. You dont get blue colour fed fish. What they probably meant is food colouring. The fish is put in a weak acid bath to strip off their slime coat then they are kept in tanks of coloured food dye as it grows back (sealing in the colour). It takes several months to wear off and even then can lead to stunting, shortened lifespan and permanant damage to the fish.

Sorry to hijack. Great looking pics to the OP. Thats a lot of parrot for the size of tank by the looks of it though.

ive also now spoken to the supplier, and breeder of these fish, and they are NOT injected or coloured the way you describe. they have ben food fed, and when i say blue i mean very pale blue, the one they had in the shop 2 weeks ago is now already back to its original colourings.
the supplier guaranteed me 100% that these were colour fed, not dyed in any way

anyways, back to topic, yes, those fish are great!
id love to have a huge setup just for them :)

what would be the point i have to ask of feeding a fish dye if it only lasts a month or 2 pray tell
shops dont like you knowing about what they do to make a sale ........... so make your own judgement
regards scot :)
