Spawns 3 And 4

Do you have a digital camera? what i do is i take multiple shots (with flash!) of the nest from diff. angles.

then i take it on the comp and zoom in REAL close, and theyre generally VERY noticable on there!

and if they are there, then congrats!

i wasnt sure about some of mine eithe,r but since i had good hiding spots i chose to just leave the female in for a while. turned out they had eggs but the dad then ate them before i ever got a chance to save them haha.

Aww that sucks Bre. No I don't have a digi with me, but I'll find out in a few days I guess

Well,
I've got another miss, red guy doesn't even have a nest really left so I doubt there are eggs otherwise he'd make the biggest nest ever and play with them. The copper guy has no idea what to do, his nest is getting smaller and some of the eggs are on the bottom but he's such a doof that he isn't doing anything with them. Looks like I'll soon have to take him out and try to handraise them.. Sooo frustrating I think I need a break. It's like every other week redbetta sleeps with lights on in her dorm and no success with fish or school or life at all and no sleep equals deadness and frustrations.

Maybe best if you leave them alone during the process. The Thai advice (which I follow) is after putting the female in, leave them alone for two days. After you remove her, leave the guy alone for 2-3 days.

I did, I was sleeping while they were spawning, but th red girl was in there for almost 24 hours and they didn't even spawn, and at the beginning he had huuge nest. The copper guy had a big nest to but now he's abandoned his eggs completely, half of his nest is gone so I'm just waiting to see if they will hatch, there are eggs on the bottom and maybe he'll get his ass in gear when they hatch, although I'm thinking that wont happen. I'm definitely waiting until after christmas now because I don't want to drag 1 week old babies home for christmas break. There has to be a reason why no one breeds bettas around here anymore, I think they got frustrated too...

I agree. I've now had probably 10 spawns over the past year that didn't work out. I get frustrated, but also love the challenge. I think many of the original failures were due to the EXTREMELY hard water in the city I was living in at that point. I tried same fish, same setup (though a little hotter) in a different city and voila...they spawned, BUT he ended up eating all the newborns as I didn't know they had even spawned until it was way too late!

So, keep with it. I probably won't be trying any spawns until the new year either now that my mango CT's failed again,
