I'm more of a catfish fan, but have always had a soft spot for true wild angels, and so when a couple of small peruvian angels came up a while ago at my LFS, I snapped them up. I had no idea on sex as they were only about 3-4" tall, but have grown really well and anre now more like 8-9" tall theough I'd say still have some growing to do.
Anyway, I was just sitting in front of my tank running the algae magnet across the glass before I realised that the two angel fish were ignoring me and spawning up the back of an amazon sword leaf!
I didn't know I had a pair as have had them together for some time and though they appeared to get on, are not yet fully grown. I sat and watched (and videoed some of the process) whilst the female laid some eggs and then the male followed and fertilised, seemingly in small batches.
I'm not sure what to do with them - I don't have anywhere I can move them! I'd think the eggs would stand a better chance where they are (see my sig for tank inhabitants) than being moved to the smaller tank.
I'm just amazed that they spawned after swapping filters two days ago, and performing a largish cool water change at the same time, but that was 48 hours ago, so may have no relevance.
They are very nice fish and they seem to do really well, but I certainly didn't expect to ever see them spawn!
Will keep you posted on what happens over the next few days.
Martin
