I'm more of a catfish fan, but have always had a soft spot for true wild angels, and so when a couple of small peruvian angels came up a while ago at my LFS, I snapped them up. I had no idea on sex as they were only about 3-4" tall, but have grown really well and anre now more like 8-9" tall theough I'd say still have some growing to do.
Anyway, I was just sitting in front of my tank running the algae magnet across the glass before I realised that the two angel fish were ignoring me and spawning up the back of an amazon sword leaf!
I didn't know I had a pair as have had them together for some time and though they appeared to get on, are not yet fully grown. I sat and watched (and videoed some of the process) whilst the female laid some eggs and then the male followed and fertilised, seemingly in small batches.
I'm not sure what to do with them - I don't have anywhere I can move them! I'd think the eggs would stand a better chance where they are (see my sig for tank inhabitants) than being moved to the smaller tank.
I'm just amazed that they spawned after swapping filters two days ago, and performing a largish cool water change at the same time, but that was 48 hours ago, so may have no relevance.
They are very nice fish and they seem to do really well, but I certainly didn't expect to ever see them spawn!
Will keep you posted on what happens over the next few days.

cool water change triggered it, I think angels spawn in the amazon after it rain (which is often) and that's what caused angels to be so common. Beatiful fish, gonna get 3 for a 29USG show tank.

Sadly no eggs remained this morning - I assume with the nocturnal catfish out, the parents probably ate them as they couldn't protect them.
I know the eggs would be looked after by the parents and they would keep only the viable eggs but if it happens again, would moving the eggs to a floating chamber be an option?
Thanks
Martin

I'm no breeder (want to and probaly will be one day), best is if you have a spare tank that's atleast 12" tall, you could take out the sword plant along with the parents into the other tank filled with the same water as original tank and raise them there.
