Both are male, given full adult coloring but both lack the obvious ovaries of a mature female.

Do you possibly have experience with these fish? I’m just curious, I see that online is says multiple males together can be aggressive?

I only have one, and he is definitely the king of the tank, every now and then harassing the amano shrimp and the snails just for fun. He does not hurt them, but definitely acts territorial.

I saw my first sparkly gourami today in Maidenheads. Well the nose of one. Twas hiding beneath a broken half of a terracotta plant pot. I hung around for five mins but it wasn’t coming out to play. Maybe later in the week eh?

The males can be very aggressive with one another.
I started with 2 males had to rehome the aggressive one as he was relentless in chasing the other one.
Now went and got 2 females for my solo male and one female is psychotically aggressive to everyone in the tank lol and they've been breeding nonstop (enhancing the aggression)

They're good fish, 2 males may work out if the tank is large enough and has enough dense plants

I think it also depends on their individual natures. I have 6 in a 22G. They are quite <coff> boisterous but so far no serious harm has been done. Sometimes the spats will go on for days. I do have a lot of plants and hiding spaces.
Here are 2 of them at it (both boys)

You can see the smaller one's fins are a bit worse for wear.
