Hello!
I was just wondering if anyone had any good info or knew of a good site that could tell me about Sparkling Gourami? All the stuff I've found seems to be conflicting!
Thank you! :)

I absolutely adore Sparkling Gouramis  Nice choice in fish, they make a lovely addition to any tank :good:

Thank you all! Sorry for the late reply, completely forgot about this topic!

Mostly, how many (if any) could I fit safely in a 64L? Also, do they need to be specific genders if they're in groups or can you just get a mix?

LOl, Ive got no idea what sex mine are and they seem to get along ok. A couple of them do chase each other a bit and they're a bit prettier than the others so I always guess they might be the males.

What other stocking are you planning on having? I'd imagine you could have about 10 in a 64L if you're not planning on too much else.

Just a word of warning though, I've never proved it (no-one was prepared to give evidence) but I am convinced one of my Sparklers took a chunk out one of my Pygmy Cory's tails. It was just a bit suss it happened only hours after I first put them in there.

No trouble since though.

Ah, good! Didn't want to cause any problems by putting in the wrong genders!
Honestly, I'd probably just go for 10 gourami in that case, but if I were to want to add a shoal of something like chilli rasbora, what stocking would you suggest then?
Of course though, my current stocking will have to die off before I get any of these guys, and that won't be for some time yet (I hope!)! :D

I reckon you could afford to have 10 Chillies too.

Or if it was me, I'd have maybe 7/8 Cories and then 6/7 Chillies :)

I've got gravel in my tank, so I don't think they'd like that! I'm not allowed to change it to sand. Mum says it'd be too messy.

I do like the sound of 10 chilli rasboras, though! I've always loved the look of them, and they stock some in one of my LFS' :D

You could add more than 10 chillies if you wanted to.
I've had 130 of them in my 180l before, once they settled in and dispersed among the plants the tank looked almost empty!

I have only kept sparkling for a short time (I have a group of 10), but I can echo the post above that gender does not seem too matter.
Which is quite fortunate as they are pretty hard to sex (I certainly can not tell any difference).

Cool! You're lucky, I've never seen them in real life!

They're beautiful fish. I was looking at some online, but went for a snoop around at the LFS and saw they had some there! They're so small too, so a big shoal would look stunning!

Oh dear! I'm sure having 130 of them was lovely though! I'd love to be able to keep that many!
How many would you say I could put in, max?

Ah, good. I didn't want to get the stocking wrong and end up with dead fish!

if It was me i would go for 30. 10 or 15 at a time so the tank has time to adjust to the new bioload inbetween.
