it definitely looks like cauliflower... hopefully that's what it is and not a tumor, doing my best to keep him alive... it's been only a year since i got him (not sure how long he's been at the store before that)...

i will do the 30% water change every other day until I get the nitrite down under control

Hello everyone,

I just tested the water again after third water change in a week, and here are the results:

aquarium:
Nitrate 10
Nitrite 0
Hardness 200
Chlorine 0
Alkalinity 180
pH 7.8
ammonia 0

Stats seem to have gotten better, but the bumps kept getting larger... It's been about a year since I got him + however long he's been at the petshop... He seems to have lost appetite and some sight...

I think he is about to pass away unfortunately. He has come to the surface only to eat a couple of pellets which he can hardly see, and has stayed at the bottom of the tank for the remaining of the day. His bump has spread to his body, and his fins have gotten significantly smaller. It's been about 16 months since we got him...

Is there anything I can do to make it easier/less painful for him? this is really difficult for me too, i never thought i would get attached to my fish this much.

the lump certainly is lymphocystis (sp) and there is no treatment as it is viral infection. are his degrading fins a new symptom..if so, get some finrot meds. if you are in the US maracyn I and maracyn II in combination. follow package instructions and increase aearation.
lympho. generally doesnt kill the fish (which is why hes hung in there so long). i dont think its a tumor as it is not smooth in appearance from earlier photos(which were very helpful bythe way). and keep up with 30-40% watchanges for a week and see if it helps. just keep him comfortable-its all you can do.
best of luck
cheers
