Guys

I had a lot of planaria so I bought "No Planaria" to kill them within 72 hours.

Ilooked this evening and my rams are sat on the bottom hardly moving and a cory cat has died!

I just tested my water and Nitrates are well above 40.

I did a 25% water change, re-tested later and got the same results so I did another 25% change and still no improvement

Can anyone help!!?!?! Any ideas?

Rob

HOLY COW!
I just realised it cam with a spoon but it was buried in the No Planaria! It is maybe 1/4th the size of the spoon i used!

Aghhh

Now what!

nitrates at 40 wont be killing your fish (water comes out my tap at 40 and goes in my tank), test ammonia and nitrite, then come back here with results.

Well i say 40, it could be as high as 80. i have read elsewhere that the powder can cover the water surface and stop the water oxygenating, people have also said they get ammonia spikes. The fish look a lot more active after the water change. Odd as the product only contains palm extracts. hmmm, positive note, the rams are swimming again, if only just!

and did you test for ammonia and nitrite?

if you are worried about oxygen in the water, only fill the tank up as high as the filter pipe that pushes water into your tank, this will cause the surface to ripple and any film on the surface will break up.

Ammonia 0.25
Nitrite 0.50

Not too terrible I guess, the fish still dont look right though

Try and get them down to 0. Maybe another 25% change and also add an airstone if you are worried about water surface.
Good Luck!

Yeah i have put my air wall on now.
Will leave it until tomorrow before making any more decisions.

Shame the instructions on the packet didnt say "Spoon provided but hidden deep in powder" :(

that is terrible nitrite numbers! anything over 0...

Mine is the same.

Even 80ppm wont be killing your fish. It is probably Ammonia or Nitrite.

-How long ago did you dose the No Planaria?

-How big is your tank?

Just to think a little outside the box, if you had enough planaria (and a small enough tank), and they died suddenly, they themselves might be contributing to the poor water quality.

Yeah again for future, Nitrates of 80 are not a big deal. Nitrites and Ammonia above 0 are a big deal. Water changes daily until this mini-cycle resolves. Also, planaria will resolve themselves. They are a common blip in tanks so no more dosing to get rid of them. Just keep testing the water and doing your water changes to keep the Ammonia and Nitrites at 0.

Good luck.

Did another 35% change today
Rams alive but not swimming
Millions of white dots floating around tank, cant tell if it is planaria or the powder falling off of things

Doing tests in a bit :(

Nothing dead but nothing looks well

Aghhhhh

I did a test this morning

Ammonia = 0
Nitrite up to 5!

This is after a 35% water change!

Advice pleaseeeee :(
