I got my new RTG arowana this morning although i had a good look at it, it didn't turn aorund at all so forgot to look at the other side, once realised I spotted a imperfection on the tail.

There's like a lump there with a small black tail coming off....

Here's a few pictures, sorry there not to great-

I cant really see anything in the picture but if your not happy with it then get it swapped, at the price these fish cost they should be perfect.

Why did you swap BTW?

moved to oddballs as i doubt many people will be able to help in emergencies.

I'll speak to him tonight about it, but if it can be solved realtively easily I'll do it myself.

After having the Green for a few days I wasn't feeling as happy as I should of as I could of got a RTG...so I did....kind of stupid really.

Here's a better pic

I'm speaking to my suplier right now and he's telling me to keep a close eye on it for a few days and go from there.

But if worst comes to worst he will replace it, only problem is all the RTG's are reserved now so I would have to wait until next shipment.

After a few suggestions we came to the conclusion thats it's an anchor worm.

I'm going to pull it off with twizzers in the next couple of days.

I'm not to sure what to do about the lump though. Should I use a scapel to cut it off or will it go eventually????

Cheers

Dont pull it off!! If the worm breaks a piece could be left inside the fish which may cause a serious infection. Use STERAZIN from water life to treat the tank and the worm will unattach and fall off naturally. Since the worms are asexual there is a good chance there will already be anchor worm eggs and larvae present in the tank which will need to be destroyed too.

Opps  Did the op as soon as I came home tonight.

I got advise off me govenor today on how to remove it safely.

Right now I have a complete anchor worm beside me.

I read up on them and the egg sacks are clearly vissible on the worm 1 at the end of each fork on the tail and there weren't these.

I dabbed the ulcer with BSB after as suggested and released him.

In all he was a very good patient and seem unfazed by the whole thing!

Just thought I'd mention he's eaten now.

I opened my deliver of live food today and there were 2 massive crickets in with them (they had formed there wings) he took them both down with in 10 seconds.

Update........

The remainder lump is almost gone now, the scale is just sticking up a very small amount now.

woooo good job paul, nice rescue, you wouldnt want a top quality fish like that to die from such a silly thing

Certainly Not...although the guy was going to cover me!!

He eats like a pig!! tonight he took down about 8 crickets, 1 super worm and about 8 descent sized mealworms, he doesn't seem to keep on froozen foods yet.

wow good job on the anchor worm removal  I read somewhere fish stomachs are the size of their eye but i somehow dont beleive that fact after see what your fish just ate
