hmm i believe the proper term is encrusting? well either way, everytime i look into my tank i seem to find somethign new. found this on one of my rock. there are 3 or 4 circles of it, and looks like alot more growing all over the rock. wanted to find out what this was so that i can take proper care of it.

each circle seems to have a ton of little tiny polyp things in them. they look like little tiny tiny star polyps.

thanks!

It appears to be some kind of encrusting coral....?briareum?. Hard to tell as yet. Looks less worrisome than the hair and bubble algae. SH

Yea I agree with SH as it actually looks like you've got some hitchhiker coral of some sort. I'd wait to see what it turns into before deciding if you want to keep it or not. But I would defo try to sort the hair and bubble algae out first. It also looks like you've got quite a bit of cyano in the tank. I would try sorting them out before moving onto the hitchhiker coral!

yea i'm trying to work on the cyano, i got 30 astrea snails, and i've reduced my feedings. they are selling this stuff at the fish store that gets rid of the cyano, and it says that it's reef safe but i'm scared to use it.

Lucky to have a coral hitch-hiker in the States. Technically it's illegal for distributors to transport wild-collected LR with corals on it, but some sneak through inspection

thats cool, i hope it's a "good" coral then. i've had this rock for about 10 months, and i just now noticed it, so hopefully it takes off and grows and i can post some more pictures of it :)

That doesnt look like briareum, unless the polyps are closed in that pic, still not so much. but I agree, that's more than likely a coral.

You may want to get a variety of CUC snails rather than just rely on a large amount of one type of snail! Get some ceriths and some nassarius etc.

Do you use a phosphate remover in the tank? If not it may be worth trying one out as it may help! As most nuisance algaes rely on nutrients in the water to help them grow so the best way to tackle them is to elliminate the nutrients! ;)

i have about 10 hermit crabs, 8 nassarius snails, 30 astreas, 2 big turbos, a blenny. i havent been able to find ceriths anywhere. :(

i do use phosphate remover, i have 2 big pieces in my emp 400. maybe it's not good enough, i use the oddyssea one. it's like a green foam pad like thing.

Never heard of that, I just use ferric oxide and put it in media bags (apparently panty hose works as well). I cant find ceriths around here either ugh, sucks.

hmm i cant find rowaphos around here either, there is however phosban, just about every place carries it. so if i cant find the rowaphos then i'll get some phosban, thanks!
