wow that's an odd looking thing, my guess is a white fungus or algae, try googling white algae and see what google come up with. It reminds of some saltwater marine corals. Im sure others on the forum will come up with an answer. Good luck.

It looks like some sort of weird mold.

Picture #1 & #2 indicate that the tank is very dirty. I see lots of leftover, uneaten food.

Perform a 70% water change and substrate vacuum. (Or in your case, remove all of that food)

If you leave it in there, it will produce excess ammonia, which is deadly to fish.

it could be mold, or if you are lucky it could be a freshwater sponge, they only grow on clean pure water so if it is a sponge then good job!

Welcome to the forum! It's definitely freshwater slime mold in my opinion. Googling it will have a bunch of management advice. You can just suck it out of the tank when you're doing a water change. It could have formed if you're overfeeding, not doing enough water changes, or have an improper amount of lighting in the tank. I'd bet it's the former two, but don't really know. I agree with pheonixkingZ about what your course of action should be. Maybe get some super easy live plants while you're at it to help suck up the ammonia.

Thanks for all suggestions! My plan will remove "the thing", food, clean up and change the tank water. Thanks again!
