im closing down my "little fish" ( free to good home see B/S/S) tank,(aqua 620T ) An really want something with a bit of attitude in there, my LFS has the same tank with yellow labs etc etc, stacked high with rock, and it looks fab,
just after a few ideas as i can feel myself getting bored now,if i sell the tank i`ll kick myself later,

so something with attitude, not overly sensitive, and no guppies!!

thanks

ha you and me in the same boat, so Im gonna see whats suggested here :D Strangely I was looking up yellow labs earlier and do like the look of em, just not sure the tank is big enough.

Something with attitude...That would depend on the size of the tank. There are lots of fish with attitude and many of them come from Central and South America. Is there a specific region you wanted them to come from? Do you want to do a brackish type thing? Predatory catfish perhaps? Something absolutely different?

If I was going to do a fish with attitude tank I think I would probably do electric catfish.

why not keep a shark<jaws<?
whats the size of the tank

Aqua one 620T
Dimensions Tank: 62 W x 72 H x 39 D cm
Water Capacity: 130 L

Too small for labs IMO

How about puffers? you could go for freshwater of Brackish species
or maybe a planted tank with a few Afican butterfly fish and maybe a Leopard Ctenopoma

hia, given the depth of the tank,it would be tricky to do a decent planted tank without upgrading the lighting ( pretty poor) i think.
ill try and get a pic of the tank in the lfs tommorow sometime, its not only yellow labs in there, but cant remember which others there are.
its a really awkward shape tank, but i do like it,cos Doresy can fix the filter everytime it packs in

Another fish I was looking up shelagh was firemouths? Fairly aggressive, smal species tank might look nice, they have some good colours.

Just a suggestion here but lately I have found some of the less well known goodeids to be interesting Shelagh. I am now keeping Ameca Splendens and Xenotoca Eisenii to name just 2. Each needs its own tank and the Amecas are extinct in the wild so I feel I am doing something worthwhile keeping some of them going. These fish are not all that challenging but it is a way I have found to have a purpose to what I do with fish. I have also picked up some limias and Heterandria Formosa so I'm branching into places that I have never been before. It is a challenge feeding the heterandria because even an adult is only 2 cm long.

wow i googled a few of the names, simply stunning, but there sheer fact that the Amecas are extinct in the wild makes it a,no no for me, due to lack of experience really, i know what im capable of and its not that, i once got hold of killifish eggs and had to pass them on as they scared the life out of me!
but having said all of the above i do wish you every success in your new venture, you definately have the knowledge for it :)

incidently isnt this tall too tall for bottom dwellers?

Minx, yes i like the idea of fire mouths, the only issue i have is the PH , mine is 6.8 in every tank and wouldnt want to start messing about with it (pH 7.0-7.5,is the preferred) and i am sure the tank is too narrow anyway, ( approx 61 cms wide)
if i had the energy i would do what i said i would do and go to the lfs,but im shattered,so it will have to wait.
i do like the look of cockatoo cichlids, but again the space in the tank is an issue , theres not enough to have a decent territory ( or am i wrong?)so would only be a pair that i could keep ( tho PH is spot on for them)

I like the sound of maybe a few aggressive brackish smaller chiclid fish as they look great with maybe a nice plec that will fit. would give variaty and maybe something interesting,

if i stacked a lot of rock in there, would that mean i could have a few more, as the holes in the rock would act as territory wouldnt it? i know when i had convicts at breeding time they turned nasty and even a 4ft tank wasnt wide enough

behold can you give me a few suggestions please :) i would fancy an albino bristlenose, what do u think?

have just been reading more about the cockatoo cichlid and appreantly they are harem polgynists best maintained in groups of one male to several females, in a 140 L tank, could i get away with this ( tank is 130L) and has its own trickle filter?
and what is meant when it says i should provide target or dither fish?
