Some Questions For The Newcomer To Saltwater

1) 2x24" t5 bulbs
if i was using these i would need to buy arcadia t5 unit.

2) its an arcadia overtank t5 luminaire 30cmlong
with the bulbs as stated in other post

I have 2 x 24watt 2ft T5's in my trop tank. I looked everywhere for an arcadia control gear to run them and it turned out they were a rip off.

So I bought a pre wired twin output ballast for £10 trade and wired a 3 core flex onto a plug top via an in line time clock.
Much cheaper and high frequency so no starter required.

wudnt have a clue how to do that

Really easy mate.

If you buy a pre wired ballast, all you have to wire is a 3 core flex to a plug top.

on the ballast you have a connector block [Live, Neutral, Earth].

Get a piece of flex, strip the end back and put the brown in LIVE, the blue in NEUTRAL, the green and yellow in EARTH].

Stick a plug on the other end and turn on. Job done!

Like I said the ballast come pre wired and they also come with T5 clips so all you need to do is fix the clips in place on the hood etc, push the tubes in and push the lamp holders on the ends.

It's that easy you dont need instructions but there is even a wiring diagram on the ballast itself.

In total it cost me around £40 [ballast/3 core flex/T5 tubes/Time clock] the most expensive being the tubes.

If you do decide to go this route then PM me and i'll guide you through it step by step. It will only take a few minutes.

Did I mention I'm a spark!

Hi right this is the starter i bought for the tank same one as this here 2x24w
http://www.ocreef.com/hagen_glo_retrofit_high_output_t5_electronic_fluorescent_lighting_system_2x24w2x39w

So what bulbs am i best to use as in 2 white etc what is best for the tank and kepping corals.
Now it is an 80cm tank.
and will be using 2 foot bulbs on it obviously
so it will levae 10cm at either side.
will that be affected much in the way of corals obviously higher demanding corals will need to be away from the sides etc. but will it get enough light to the sides i mean its not a major issue as only small space at either side so could stay away from either side/
