I was at the lfs the other day and they some little baby Angels. They were so very cute  Got me to thinking about Angels and wondering if I ought to get some. I have some questions, though.

1) Can they be kept singly, or do they need to be kept in at least pairs?
2) Is a 29-gallon tank big enough for an Angel?
3) Is there enough room in the 29-gallon if I have a half-dozen or so Corys, a couple of Kuhlis, a few Otos, and a dozen Neons? (Yes, I know Angels like to munch Neons.)
4) If there is enough room for an Angel(s) in my tank with the current residents, would I be able to add more fish, or would the Angel(s) and the others be it?
5) Do they grow quickly?
6) How "tall" do they get? (I'm guessing this depends, at least partially, on how "fancy" they are or the variety they are, but I'm looking for a general number.)

I think that's all the questions I have for now. I've been mulling this and I'll continue to do so for awhile. If my 29's not big enough, I'm thinking about getting baby Angels anyway, and then putting them in my mom's 55-gallon tank when they get bigger, or maybe getting and setting up my 55-gallon tank.

Thanks!

They can live singly, but the ideal conditions would be a mated pair or group of juvies that are allowed to pair off. But, single is fine too.

Yes, a 29gall is big enough for an angel - the biggest consideration is that the tank should be at least 15" tall to accomodate their adult height.

Yes, I'd say you have room for an angel or 2 in your 29 now - corys and neons are low waste producers.

If you add a single angel, you could probably have room for some more fish, but if you add in 2 angels, I wouldn't add anything else.

I don't really know how quickly they grow or their final adult height. The little angel I have in my avatar I've had for a couple of months and I can tell that he's gotten a little bigger, but not really that much bigger at all.

I think an angel or 2 would look great in your tank :)

My brother has a 29 gal with a variety of fish, with a single Angel. It seems to be okay alone, but he's pretty big (almost full size) and claims a big section of the tank. So just watch for that.

I have 4 juvy angels in a 10 gal. that seem fine, but for Christmas they're going into a 30 gal. tall.

Hmmm, thanks :)

I'll have to think on this some more. I just put an SAE and two Rams in my tank. I was looking at those little baby Angelfish when I was at the lfs yesterday, though, and they're just so CUTE! I think one of my professors is still saving a 55-gallon tank of his for me...so I do have a bigger tank I can get if I need it. And my mom has that 55-gallon... Hmmmm... :) I just love those little baby Angels! They're just so cute!

Thanks, again, for the responses!

Hi Pam,well....I would say get the 55 gal.Angels get to grow fast,of course this also depends on space, quality of water and balanced diet.
I also have a 55 and I have 8 of them mediun size, and I can tell you I have to get rid of some.Simply 'cause after they reach certain size, they start getting very territorial; And let's not talk about paring up and.

But I can tell you there is a reason why angels are the most popular tropical fish in America.....these are some of the most beautiful and interesting fish out there.

Good luck with your new fish.

1) Can they be kept singly, or do they need to be kept in at least pairs?

They will be fine singly. In fact, if you bought more than two angels and later they get older (8-12 months) then they will be mature and want to pair off, if the other angels that are not part of the pair, then they may get beat up or chased off.

2) Is a 29-gallon tank big enough for an Angel?

I follow the rule of thumb, every 10 gallons for an adult angel. You could probably keep up to 3 angels in a 29 gallon.

3) Is there enough room in the 29-gallon if I have a half-dozen or so Corys, a couple of Kuhlis, a few Otos, and a dozen Neons? (Yes, I know Angels like to munch Neons.)

Should be if you clean the aquarium often enough.

5) Do they grow quickly?

I'm not sure what you mean quickly as. I think the angel is a full adult when they are a year old and they still are growing but slower. You buy angels from the stores about a couple of months old already.

6) How "tall" do they get? (I'm guessing this depends, at least partially, on how "fancy" they are or the variety they are, but I'm looking for a general number.)

The average is 5-6" in diameter. For veiltail angelfish, i think they can get up to 12" in diameter but i'm not sure about those certain breeds.
