i am do a cycle on my fish tank it is in the fourth day and bought a tetra test 5in1 test kit and cant seem to work the strips out no instructions in the box so i dipped one in the tank and it come out from bottom to top dark pink dark green then the other three are like a pinky purple colour???????????????

strips are not the most accurate when it comes to test results, i'd suggest a API master kit, its money well spent, not sure about the colour though as i have never had them

I agree with lilfishie the API Master Kit at £20-£25 is worth the money. A comprehensive set with full instruction and 700 tests!
If you are doing a fishless cycle it will be at least a week before there is any drop in ammonia if you are using new filter media.

With the Tetra strips, the colour guides are printed on the side of the tube that contains the strips. Get in touch with your LFS and tell them there was no leaflet included.

is this the one you mean?

And also much less expensive in the long run. A pack of 25 test strips runs about $10 to $12 while a API Master kit is about $22 and will do hundreds of tests. And the thing that amazes me about strips is that none of them (that I know of) test for ammonia which is THE most important thing you need to test for in a new tank. When setting up a new tank, KH and GH are almost totally irrelevent.
