I bought 5 young loaches supposedly yoyo's to keep the lonely one I had company, but after a year I am not so sure it really are.

Does anybody know what kind of loaches I have? Thanks!

Looks like a Botia rostrata, common names include Gangetic loach, Twin Banded Loach, Sergeant Major Botia, Botia (assamese), B. dohser (Khasi) and Rani mach (Bengali), ideally it will want water temps around 72- 79 Fh (23-26 degrees cel), and a pH around 6.8- 7.2.
They shouldn't get to large only around 8.5 cm (3.33inches), they are easily confused as juviniles with B. histrionica, B almorhae an B. kubotai, as they mature they can start to look more like B. kubotai.

Either B.rostrata or B.kubotai; as said above the test is the development of a lateral (horizontal) line, which B.kubotai's develop and B.rostrata don't. Right now the better guess will be B.rostrata.

However: exactly when this line appears in B.kubotai depends on the individuals and seemingly on the collection location... so just wait and see...in a few months you will know better.

Either way you got yourself nice fish.

They look very much like my burmese loaches or Botia histrionica. Have a look on the internet. There are quite a few that look the same until they are quite mature...

Rostrata is the most likely...but I also had a kub who developed a piece of the horizontal line only at about 2"... and have some 1" kubs now that already have the kub pattern...

I'm certain that these are Botia histrionica!!!

A beautiful loach and will only get to around 5" max.
