Hi, relatively new to marines. Kept them years ago but would like some advice please.
My tank has been running a few months now and all the water parameters are fine.

Two weeks ago, I bought two soft corals, one being a leather coral which is doing fine, and the other a siularia type coral. This one was ok til last weekend. To start with only a few of the polyps came out displaying but as the week has gone on, none of them are dispaying now. I can also see a shiny surface on it, but it does not appear to be any type of mucus like they shed. Last night I lifted it and sniffed it and there is no nasty smells.
Has anyone any ideas? Is it just a case of a shutdown like they do?

I know from my own issues that soft corals can sulk/rest for no aparent reason. Sometimes moving into a nes system can cause this. It often does not happen straight away either. I just moved my corals from a 25g to a 100g and everything was fine for about 2 weeks, them my devils finger did just what your did.. slowly stopped extending until it remaind totally shrunk for about 10 days. Its now just had a bit of a shed and is opening again.
I would say as long as there is nothing around it that will bother it and its not rotting or showing signs of any type of breakdown just leave it. It seems like some kind of rest period period to me. Both my cabage leathers and my toad also did it but they did open up after a few days rather than the 10 days for the finger leather.

All I have in the tank at the moment is live rock, one leather coral which is getting better every day, the sinularia i have mentioned, two clown fish, a few turbo snails, and four hermit crabs (3 x red legged and 1 x blue).
Looking to add some more soon.
