I have a Goniopora that has shrunk down to the base and parts of it have turned purplish and is wasting away. It looks slimy-like. It seemed to happen over night. It was fine and then suddenly it seemed to begin wasting away. The water parameters are fine and I have had it for about 4 months. Parts of it look healthy and green but it no longer extends itself upwards in the tank. Any ideas what the heck this is or what I can do to save it...if anything? :dunno:

gonipora have a horrible track record of survival in captivity, what you are describing is not uncommon. They tend to be very sensitive to ph swings (what is your ph swing from night to day?) temp fluctuations can also bother them as well.

usually the only ones that survive are the red ones....

Have you added any new corals or inverts to your tank of late? SH

give it two or three days. mine does the same thing, after water changes, or after I water blast my live rock to clean them up, ect. it will at times secret some mucus and not even extend anything, it just looks like a smooth green rock with little holes. give it a day or two. i have noticed it happen when i changed my light spectrum. temp is not really a problem for me (chiller and heater) so its constant. it is probably more due to your salt levels and ph. i noticed it happens more when i top off or when i havent top off my water in awhile

Goniopora as hard corals and not soft. As has been mentioned they have appawling track records in captivity. You will probably find your water peramters are fine and this coral would still perish :*)
