I have a neck injury from a car accident and have a great deal of trouble lifting heavy things. I finally invested in the Aqueon water changer so I wouldn't need to carry buckets. Tonight is the first night I've tried to use it.

This thing is bloody frustrating...I've been fighting with it for an hour and I'm getting close to either crying or throwing it out a window. The tubing refuses to attach to the siphon. First the tubing was cut at an angle, so I recut it, but it's just so thick that it keeps popping right back off as soon as I think I've got it secured. I'm not sure if my hands just aren't strong enough or if this thing is so cheapily made that it's broken out of the bag. I managed to get it attached to the faucet attachment, but even that is tenous.

Any suggestions before I demand my money back and resign myself to a lifetime of bucket hauling?

Well I was gonna say before u start get all water out of hose but with my aqueon the thing just popped right on

I haven't used any water at all yet, as I can't attach anything to the hose. Was the end of the your hose very thick? I'm wondering if maybe thinning it down would help...

Yes it was about 1/4 or 1/2 inch thick

You are unscrewing the cap on the end where it attaches to the controls for the faucet, correct?

I have one of these and yes the tubing needs a good shove on but it is no impossible

Er...no. No I was not. Because I am not nearly so smart as I like to pretend.

Between this and the video guppi posted, my problem has been solved...I unscrewed the cap, jammed the tubing on and bang...I have a functional water changer.

I'd said many thanks, but I'm too busy slinking away in embarrassment.

That looks pretty cool I need to do bucket hauling tommorrow

yeah, they are easy and quite cheap to make as well. I prefer not to use a sink and to take the shower head off and attach my hose there. I just drain into the tub with gravity, since I hate the idea of having to have the sink running while you drain the tank.

lol, love the tip towards the end, just 25% water change once a month!

Not sure if its any help and whether I'm picturing it right, but most hoses are much easier to use (flexible) if the end is warmed up in some water or something.

I did my first water change with the Aqueon and it was a total success...I'm so happy right now. The video was a HUGE help. Now that I don't have to worry about buckets I can move forward with my plans to get a bigger tank!

Congrats, and don't feel too embarrassed, we've all had moments where we get our head stuck on one way of looking at a problem and can't see the obvious solution. I'm glad it eventually worked out for you.
