Hey guys
My big tanks finally ready for some fish! Ive just been to my local shop and bought the tanks first five fish! Ive just bought a pair of very impressive looking Angel fish, a Fighter and a pair of black mollys! These Angel fish must be 4-5inches tall and cost me £15 for the pair (can anyone tell me if thats good value for money). Anyways, Once there in and going i'll post a pic or two!

So heres the starting fish:

Whatcha think?

Be ready to move the betta, they are often not very good community fish.

EDIT:It looks like one of your mollies has some fin damage.

Sorry whats a "Betta"? (As my sig says, im very new!)

I thought that but where it appears to be damaged is just clear! Its smooth, not torn or rotted!

Thats really worrying that you bought a fish, which:
A) you dont know what it is
B) could have been completely unsuitable for the mollies etc

Id really suggest that you do some research prior to buying ANYTHING at all. Many a newb has come home with a common plec for thier 10gall tank.

Ps dont take any offence to my comments, its for your benefit and obviously (and most importantly) your fish's

Pps....

Betta = Betta Splendins = Siamese Fighting Fish

Dark have already said what i was going to say, i would just read up on tropical fish, this forum is great for it, look through the FAQ's

I think £15 is about $30, so yeah that's about what you would pay for large Angels like that. I've seen them for more expensive, so you got a pretty good deal.

I would agree that you might have to move the Betta (Fighter). They're usually not good community fish, especially if they're in with colorful or long finned fish, which you have both. In the future, it's always a good idea to do a little research before buying anything. Most of the people on this forum can tell you that LFS employees can be pretty clueless and oftentimes give bad advice. But you live and learn I guess!

Cheers for the advice, and no, i wont take offence to anything said (i know just who the expert and newbie is in this situation)! ;)

If you'd had said "fighter" i'd have known what you ment! I guess its names more then anything! Althought i am learning . . . i was able to name afew fish without looking in at the shops lables! :D Ive been told the fighter will be fine with three or four female fighters . . . Any truth to that? Im trying my hardest but every direction i seem to look in is shouting out different bits of advise!

someone mentioned Plec's . . . Are they not beginner fish? Ive got three, ive had them for months!

I am trying guys, but like i said, im new to this, thats why im here! ^_^

bettas and angels dont make good tank mates, they both attack each other usally, mollies are often unsuatable for fighters aswell, i would take the betta (fighter) back and keep the angels and mollies, or devide the tank for the betta alone.if the mollies have fry, the angels will goble them up, you really should have dont more research before going out and buying them, and the fish store doesnt sound too helpfull either, £15 fo a pair of angels sounds good, ive seen them a lot higher priced.

I was told the same about keeping a male and female fighters together and I wouldn't recommend it.
To be honest a male is better in a small tank on his own, he'll be more than happy. They are a solitary fish and don't need the company of others so a little 5G would be fine.
A few people have kept them succesfully as community fish but you never know when things could start going wrong. Also, keeping a male Betta in a community tank will restrict you to what other fish you can keep.
Hope that helps. ;)

most bettas will be fine with small fast fish like tetras and bottom dwelles, but unsuitable for long finned or very colorful fish like guppies or angels. and most important NEVER HOUSE 2 MALES TOGETHER AND BE VERY CAREFULL WITH 2 FEMALES.

In addition The Plecos, if Common are going tp get Huge, and they make keeping water Quality difficult because of all the waste they produce.

Tip for all newbies, no matter what your filter is do 2 water changes of at least 30% per week...

Enjoy the hobby their is not one of us on here who did not by bad fish combos as begginers...Its how you end up with so many different tanks! and our knowledge...

For the time being your plecs should be fine. But in a couple of years they could get to around a foot, adults can and do fight each other.BTW very nice angel fish lovely marble effect. Also your betta is very nice ,looks healthy, but as others have said he could start to fight with other fish and nip at there fins ,however as your tank is large he should be ok for the moment.

Good luck!....

And try not to end up with as many fish and tanks i have!
