I've been in the hobby for really long now (8 years), starting from goldfish, but I have just moved on to tropical fish (tetras, chichlids, and  live plants) for just about 2 years. I've had some success and all keeping fish but eventually they die. I still have so much to learn (as to subject like water, ph, nitrate, ammonia, ect) and apply them. So my question is where do I actually start and gain knowledge and experience in order to successfully keep fish.

There's a ton of sticky threads on here that explain what cycles are and ammonia etc.

I'd also buy a water testing kit such as api masterkit. Having one of these will help you understand.

  1. Get hold of a book or two.
  2. Read through threads on this forum, religiously - especially ones in regards to the nitrogen cycle and peoples problems.
  3. Ask lots of questions, we are so very happy to help on this forum.
Voila :D

People on this forum have been so beyond helpful to me. Youre in good hands here.
