I'm not tall (5' 6") nor do I have long arms. I will be using ladder/chair. My worry is that planting plants would be difficult. If someone has been in this situation, how did you successfully placed the plants?

Thank you

ive never done it but, my lfs sells a glass scraper, which also on the other end has a "planter", i think that might be a option, otherwise im not sure good luck

I plant with a pair of tweezers which are about 20cm long so they add to my arm length, my tank is 50cm tall and the top of it is 130cm off the ground, I manage okay, quite easily actually and I'm 5'6"

can you please give me a link to these tweezers?

thank you

I also user tweezers to plant my 46cm deep tank. TGM sell a few different types, at varying prices. I think JBL also make them.

Another thing to concider about a deep planted tank is light, as it weakens the deeper you go.

my worry is the lighting you are going to need to get to the depths.
by having that, you are going to have crazy light near the surface so you better not skimp on co2 and ferts.
One limiting factor and your in trouble.

mmmm algae.

Do you think 6x54w T5 HO would cut it? I can't afford halides at the moment. but at combined watts of 324W, it's more than 2 150W halides which is common halide setup.

Thanks again. :)

Holly crap! 6x54w T5 HO would probably boil the water at the surface!

I have 2x39w T5 (not sure if they are HO) and the plants are still alive. Tho I'm not sure if I could do with a touch more, but gonna try Co2 b4 I think of that (reflector will be my next lighting purchase). With that amount of light you would defo need Co2 and EI fertilisation. Like Nick16 says any difficiency at that lighting level and you'll have algae coming out of your ears!

it's probably my lack of knowledge when it comes to this hobby but 2x 150W halides are common with planted setup and you don't see/here the same effect?

The halides are usually suspended a little ways above the tank , but I see what you mean. What are the over all dimensions/gallons/litres of your tank?

they are common, like in amano's tanks becuase he used a very hi tech set up. the more light you use = more co2= more ferts = more maintainence.

so it has a knock on effect and if you struggle with all these these things yu will get algae.
