Ok so I am going to be getting back home in less than a week. My 20G freshwater crashed and all my fish died, so I am coming back home with around 25 gallons of Salt Water from Venice, FL. Here is a list of all my equipment I can think of off hand, I am sure I have more lying around but these are from the 20G that just crashed.

ESU Digital Power Center
Marine Land C-160 Canister Filter
AGA 30" Versa Top
Corallife 30" 65W PC Fluorescent Lighting with stands
AGA 20 Gallon Long Aquairum
Cascade 1000 Series Cansiter Filter
In Line External Thermal Heater
Digital Thermometer

Would my best bet be letting the water from the gulf go through the canister for a day or two and then add LR and LS? Am I better off without the Versa Top to help with gas evaporation? Someone help me along as this pretty much happened out of no where and I have a lot of money spent on equipment that I am not going to let lay around, thanks in advance.

Well it's not trouble really I think it will be easier and cheaper than mixing, I am going to run it through carbon and phosphate remover.

  If you're concerned about the cost of salt mix, ~$40 for 160 gallons worth of it, the marine side of the hobby is gonna be way to expensive for ya ;)

Well I will be getting it this evening or early tomorrow morning since that is when we are leaving. And it's not that I don't have the money to spend on mixing, I just figured that since this would be free water why not go ahead and go for it since it is already established water.

Just make sure it's clean. And is the right temperature.

Well it won't be happening now, there are heavy rains moving through the area tonight and it's going to ruin the water and such so when I get home I am just going to buy mix and do it the hard way. btw n3ont3tra where in south eastern pa are you located? Can you Private Message me?

I'm not sure a bit of rain is going to dilute the ocean too much... ;)

Well if you don't have a boat and collect near an estuary or stream for ease, then it's a good idea to consider rainfall ;)

Well I am on the way back to PA and I'll be mixing up water when I get the chance. Is there any preference over Red Sea and Instant Ocean? I am kind of sad that I couldn't get water from the gulf but I was going to end up spending close to $40 on containers for transporting it back to PA. I am going to make a detailed journal of the tank starting with the aftermath of my boiled freshwater when I get home, so look for it, it will be coming.
