So Disappointed

I have a 2 foot tank which a friend gave me. It had been in the attic for ages, so I had to clean it up. I also went out and bought a stand for it.

Today I was going to start setting it up, putting in the gravel etc, and I've noticed two big chips out of the corners of the tank, plus loads of scratches inside the glass I guess I could have scratched the glass by cleaning it too vigorously, but the chips must have been there before.

I'm really disappointed, but I don't think the tank will be any good. And after I'd bought the cabinet, gravel, filter and heater as well

Could probably go to your LFS or petsathome and pick up a brand new one for about £20-£30. It's more money I know

Or even cheaper than buying a new tank, replace the chip pane (s) of glass

I don't really want to buy a new tank, but if I do, is there anywhere I could order a 2 foot tank online (UK delivery)

even if you could remove the scratches i'd be worried about the chips...

Right I just got a quick quote for a pane of 6mm thick glass thats 36" x 30" = £21 + silicone = £26

£26 is cheaper than a new tank, do you not think?

haha i tried that one ! never worked though . Never mind. someone mentioned on here the other day that you can buff them out with one of the car windscreen scratch remoer things. Don't know how true it is though.

The chips are in the corners, so I can't just replace one pane of glass. but I think if I were to buff out the scratches, the tank would be usable until I could get a new one.

I'll have a look for one of those windscreen buffer things - anyone know where to get them?

I have tested it and it doesn't leak, so I'm going to try to buff out the scratches with some of that stuff they use on windscreens and then make the best of it. The biggest scratch is at the back, so once I put on a background it shouldn't be too noticeable

Can't really justify the expense of a new one, so I think I'll do my best with the one I have.

They say its very hard to remove scratches off glass tanks.
Save the tank as a hospital or issolation tank.

Be careful what you use on the scratches... They are on the inside of the tank according to your post. Buffing agents could be bad for fish?? I don't know I'm just pointing this out.
