So Cool...

Possibly the most mindless thing you could keep in a tank besides plants. The comment below the article says it all:

use a round aquarium to prevent them from getting stuck in corners

They don't even have a brain you may as well keep a moss ball.

Im not really a fan either. Its kind of boring when you see the circular shaped tanks at an aquairum or zoo and the little jellies floating around.... can't have anything in the tank as they will most likely tear their flesh on it...

Seems like more of a pain then a joy....

Yeah they aren't exactly the most interesting creatures... but they're definitely a conversation starter. :)

Some company in Japan used to make some very realistic robotic jellyfish. I spent a good chunk of last year trying to track some down, but never did find them. Thinkgeek sells an inferior knockoff, though.

Actualy if an animal is able to move itself and eat it has to have a brain to control these functions.

I quote from a website (and verified the info on other sites):

Jellyfish do not have a brain like us. They have a complex network of nerves which respond to things, but they cannot think about things.

Also:

Jellyfish do not communicate like we do, remember they do not have a brain or language!

Well actually they don't have a brain, as stated above they only have a network of nerves and small sensory structures that go no further than sensing light, gravity and to control muscle activity. Hardly intelligence is it.

edit: I think the word "eat" is misleading, they don't do anything more than merely absorb nutrients, much in the same way to creatures such as sea anemones.

That conditioning..... Sea slugs can be taught that...So that doesn't really mean much and has nothing to do with memories. Although I'm courious how they proved that. Jelly fish are not very aware of there environment.

 That was one of the best lines I've read on here in a while.

I have hundreds of pygmy jellyfish in my sump for my marine aquarium and they are fascinating. They live in the sump and not the main tank but I've been told they are unable to sting me. All they do is pulsate to the surface.
