I wouldnt advise keeping thin bodied fish like eels or bichirs with a oscar. Oscars will try to eat anything they "think" they can swallow which often results in the poor fish having its head munched on before the oscar realises it cannot swallow whats in its mouth and spits it out. Before you even consider adding more fish you MUST get a larger tank, a single oscar should have a 75g minimum when full grown and bichirs have lightning quick growth and will easily be over a foot in under a year.

will a snowflake eel or a moray eel be compatible with my 4 inch oscar? i plan on upgrading to a 75 gallon+ tank, but i only have a 30 with a lot of rocks and hiding places right now. how big are they when you buy them? how much do they cost? also, i have tiny crushed shells at the bottom of my tank...will they be okay?

i agree with CFC.

you should get the new tank before you buy any new fish.

its iressponsible to buy big fish when u dont have the right tank yet.



also you say your fish havent grown fast so far?


oscars are probably the fastest growing fish you can buy so if he hasnt grown you should be trying to find out why.

my guess would be the 30 gallon tank stunting him.

ive always found fish grow faster when they can stretch there fins and have a swim.




oh and again as CFC sed. 75 is the minimum for one oscar, not 55 as earlier stated.

Snowflakes and morays do not go very well in fresh water.

But fire eels on the other hand... THEY ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
