Snails!

If you've only got 10 snails, then leave it at 2 assassins.

Assassins do sometimes bury into the substrate and seem to have disappeared without trace, but they do emerge eventually.

My daughter's tank has quite a few snails but she won't let me get rid of them as she likes watching them!

I have had quite a success with small plastic pots with lids (the type I get from the Indian takeaway)burn holes in them with a soldering iron or drill them to the size of the snails attach a piece of fishing line to the top, pop in a piece of lettuce or cucumber and leave in tank overnight. Simples.
If you are not the type of person that does not like killing them you can use a copper treatment like Cuprazin, this kills them quite quickly.

Sorry to hijack the post, I am having the same problem with an increasing population of snails similar to the one pictured. Last night I must have removed 25-30 and this morning I counted at least another 10. So much for giving the plants a good wash before they went in the tank!

It's a 275litre tank and am guessing that the 5 assassin snails are working overtime to catch them. I'm being realy careful to feed  in small quantities, making sure everything is gettnig eaten in an attempt to reduce the amount of food for snails.

I was contemplating getting a small population of Zebra loaches as had heard they were supposed to be partial to the odd snail.

Jon, if you were thinking about getting Zebra Loaches anyway, then go for it. However, to just get them to solve a short-term problem means that you can't stock something else that you were planning to.

Assassins worked for me, yes it took a while, but I was patient, and I am now pest-snail free.

Feeding less (rather than less often), would help reduce the snail population explosion.  Clown Loach may work quicker than your assassin snails.

The first sentence, yes absolutely. The second sentence, no, clown loaches are not suitable for a 45l tank.

Whoops, agreed, I missed that bit.
