will they do harm to the aquarium or are they best left in???#

i quiet like having them in there, more natural

I like having snails in my tanks. The only problem I have is that they breed so quickly! I have a tank w/ Cichlids who just love to eat them, so it's not much of a problem for me. They are in my 29 and whenever they start to get out of control, I just drop a piece of cucumber in and once it's covered with snails, I drop them in with my cichlids.

Snails can be great to have - it's just up to you to keep the population down and there are a lot of tricks and tips on how to do this. I'd never use a chemical to do it. Enjoy them. :D

Snails, hmm IMO I hate them. I had some on some plants that i bought from petsmart and they are not to fun. Some fish eat them but after awhile they will get tired of them and then they will multiply like crazy. They are asexual so all it takes is one. Be careful and once they get to crawling everywhere start getting rid of them before the breed.

Not all snails are asexual and not all snails are bad. It's just like fish. You have to have the right ones in the tank.

Also the rate at which snails multiply has a direct relation to the condition of the tank. The more food source available the more snails. Therefore the easiest way to maintain the population is to keep the environment clean. Don't overfeed and do regular tank maintenance and the snails will not have the food supply to get out of hand. HTH :)
