I know you can buy "Anti-Snail" which knocks them out so you can pick them out, but I don't really want to do that, I'd rather just kill them all so I know I haven't missed any.

Are there any recommended methods for snail killing?

In my tank I have 4 mollies and 2 corys.

do the corries not eat them? how big is the tank in litres?

I never managed to get rid of my snails! In the end I cleaned the tank right out, bought new gravel, cleaned the filter out and started again. Next day i just noticed 2 or 3 of the blighters had been hiding in the filter, this went on for a couple of weeks until i was certain there were no more! i have got loads now but they are in the water barrel at the bottom of the garden, used to feed my dwarf puffer with them :good:

I've heard that you can add some cucumber to the tank, leave it over night and harvest it in the morning - when it's covered in snails. Do this several times and you should keep them under control.... not tried it tho!

i tried that and they completely ignore the cucumber and zuccini!

My tanks only 30 lites. My julii cory are quite small, i dont think they could manage to eat the snails :)

I had the same problem snailmania in my 125L tank, tried the anti snail treatment but always managed to miss one which turned back into 100, then 200+ I found the only way was the Clown Loaches, people say you have to have 200L tank but my 3 Loaches are in bliss, Do you know anyone who has any, maybe you borrow them to sweep the snails then you can give them back ( maybe a silly suggestion but probably would work )

if you have a good lfs that will take fish for store credit...maybe you can try this. at my LFS small clown loaches are 6 dollars. buy 1 and put him in your tank. leave him in there for a week or so and your snail population should be down. then return him for store credit. to me 6 dollars isnt a lot and its worth the effort to rid myself of snails.

the problem with snails is once you do kill them all, they still leave behind their eggs. my 1.5 snail tank has hundreds of egg patches. you can try taking your fish out and increasing the temperature to 120 or so.

another way..and im not certain on any of these..is to add salt?? cant fish tolerate a bit of salt but not snails?

another one would be add copper. snails are inverts and inverts dont like copper right?? my flourish has copper and im pretty sure its killed off snails for me before

Snails explosions tend to be because of an over feeding problem, although it wont get rid of them all, cut back on the feeding of the fish, if there isnt enough food for them, they wont keep multiplying. The other method of adding cucumber usually help, try lettuce see if that works any better :good:

Failing that, sell them to puffer owners :D
