Do snails and other invertabrites make ammonia? and if so does it hurt them like it hurts fish? i was thinking about getting just a tank of invertabirtes with alot of snails for my eventual puffer lol. but do the make ammonia and does it hurt them because i dont think i want to go through the nerve racking prosscess we all know as cycleing just for some crabs and such.......

Any help would be appreciated!

I would imagine they do because almost all living things give off some small amount of ammonia in their waste.

They certainly do produce ammonia. They eat and therefore excrete waste. Break the waste down and you get ammonia.

Also, if you were to put a bunch of snails in your tank and they were to die all of a sudden, you'd have a crap-load of pollution to worry about because their bodies would decompose and make a mess. Just some info....

That happened to me not too long ago, some meds I used killed nearly half of my trumpet snails and it was AWFUL. Dead snails are POISON.
